Metropolitan Police, Kent

November 1st, 2006 by John Pepper

Metropolitan Police, KentThe building is a 19th Century Dutch gabled house set in 17 acres of landscaped park, which formally belonged to a diamond merchant. The building committee therefore were obliged to retain the high Victorian standards of interior fitments and appointed Spice to produce design proposals for upgrading and enlarging bar lounges and conservatories containing traditional polished hardwood joinery, bar counters and screens, set against an elegant backdrop of velvet drape curtains with swags and tails, deep pile Wilton carpets and pattern sofas.

To broaden the appeal for Police families, Spice Design initiated a design for a children’s playroom, which is decorated with hand-painted murals and children’s furniture. The investment by the building committee has been seen to be effective with a favourable response from the members and plans for continued upgrade of other bars and a ballroom area is proposed for the future.
